Individuals : FARNLACHER Nicolaus
Richard and Ruth Farnlacher visited the church in Lonnerstadt. This is the same church in which Nikolaus Farnlacher was baptised (on July 18, 1820). Still in use is an ancient, ornately decorated baptismal font. It is possible that this is the same font used for Nikolaus' baptism. (See the picture of this font in "A Genealogical History for the Farnlacher/Farnlucher Families, 1989" by Karl Farnlacher)

Obituary notice: "Age 91, 2810 Minerva Ave., survived by several nieces and nephews" Moreland Funeral Home; service on "Friday, 2 P.M.; Rev. Hermann J. Kuhlmann officiating; interment, St. Paul Lutheran Cemetary" -- c. April 3, 1963; Westerville paper?
SuAnn Farnlacher spoke with Amy Souder, May 28, 1999... Ruth Wolfe is Amy's niece. Martin's house was on Walnut Street, east of Westerville. It was the first house east of the stream on Lee Road. The original house has been remodeled; now it's brown. English's house... two houses west, where the sign "Carl Souder -- straw" was. That was Amy's brother. Next to Carl Souder, "Nick's house, further west... three houses in a row", sold it to Souders and moved to a house closer to dam. Nick (Farnlacher) burned off some land, got caught in the fire. He got gangrene, subsequently killed himself with a gun... at about age 93 years. Amy's parents, Ralph Souder and Mary Schmidt lived on 350 acres at 605 and Central College Road. They were quite well-off. The present farm has several barns. The house was built in 1809 and is of brick construction. There was a wisteria (sp?) trellace to the front door. The farm was sold to Wexner's organization which had first option to buy. Amy's two brothers, Clark and Elmer, never married. Their home was "probably a pig stye". Elmer became sick and died in 1998; Clark is now in a nursing home.

Individuals : FARNLACHER Richard Theodor
In 1985, through a Bavarian genealogical society, we learned that there were Farnlachers living in Munich. A copy of a page of the Munich telephone directory listed Farnlachers named Frieda, Karl, Richard, and Werner. Through correspondence, we learned that Frieda is the mother of Karl and Richard and that Werner is the son of Richard.
Richard Farnlacher has proven to be our benefactor! He is also interested in family history and had begun his own family search before learning of the Ohio Farnlachers. He also speaks and writes English and has answered all of our letters to the "Munich Farnlachers". Richard works as a lithographer in a Munich printery.
When Richard learned of the Ohio Farnlachers, he wrote to his sister, Margaret, who immigrated to North America in 1960 and was at the time living in St. Ann's, Ontario. Margaret in turn called John Karl (Jack) Farnlacher. This call resulted in a visit by Jack, Ann, and Karl in November, 1985 with Margaret and her husband Lars Olav Budjan and their adopted sons, Gordon and Ronald. (Their residence is now a big, beautiful new home located on Lake Ontario with a Beamsville, Ontario address. Richard calls it "the castle".)
We were gratified from the very start of our visit to be warmly received by our newly found relatives. At the very outset, Larry (Lars Olav) asked us to stay at their home during our visit. We were complete strangers but were treated as family. Eagerly we compared pictures and family information -- hoping to share as much background as possible in the time available. We were not able, however, to establish (at that time) the relationship between Munich and Ohio Farnlachers. It was very enjoyable getting to know such personable people. During our stay, Larry and Margaret took us to see the Niagara Falls and the Welland Canal.
During the visit, we learned that the Munich Farnlachers had traced their ancestry to Munchof, a village about seven miles from Frimmersdorf. At that time, no relationship between the families could be established, but we had no doubt that a relationship existed.
With the Frimmersdorf clue, as stated in the introduction, Richard was able to establish the connection with his own genealogy and ultimately the connection between our families. The Munich family genealogy was, of course, associated with Haus Nr. 4, but also at a later time with the village of Unterwinterbach, Ailsbach, Breitenlohe, and finally Munich.
The Ohio family owes a huge debt of gratitude to Richard and Ruth for the excellent job of researching that they have done. The first effort on behalf of both of our families was at the Lonnerstadt-Pfarramt. Lonnerstadt is the location of the community church that serves Frimmersdorf and other surrounding villages. (Pfarramt refers to the parish office or where the records are kept.)
The records are mostly in the old German script which has not been is use for nearly fifty years. Making the task more difficult, is the use of Latin and Latin abbreviations throughout. Poor handwriting and fading ink further complicate the task.
Through our Munich relatives, we also learned of a California connection. Harry Farnlacher was a police officer in the San Francisco area and had visited the Munich Farnlachers on two occasions. This family included Thelma, the wife of Harry, and a son Walter. Harry and Thelma are now deceased.
Walter is married and has two sons and an adopted daughter (Jimmie, Erik, and Athena). Walter's great grandfather migrated to California in 1852 and was a brother of Johann Georg Farnlacher, Richard's great great grandfather.

Henry A Farnlacher died of the flu on October 26, 1918. He had been a policeman in San Francisco and had probably contracted the flu doing his job. The world was going through an influenza epidemic at this time. Walter Farnlacher and his wife Alma, while returning home on their wedding day, to surprise his mother, died in a car accident with a train in Colma, CA. That was December 15, 1918. Eva Farnlacher, who had married a Harry Buckley, died in February 1920 of pneumonia. So within a short space of less than 18 months all three of Emma's children died. Only Henry had any offspring. That was Harry (Walter's father) who really did not know his father since Harry was not quite two years old when Henry passed away. -- from Walter Farnlacher, 8-30-1998.
If Walter died in a train crash, who is Lt. Walter Farnlacher who "died in the Great War"? Lt. Walter Farnlacher served in the US Army, apparently died in World War I, and was in the Class of 1918 at Lowell High School, San Francisco Unified School District. His name was featured on page 10 of the February 18, 1997 issue of "The Lowell", school newspaper of Lowell H.S.... "Students dedicated the December, 1918 issue of "The Lowell" to the 18 Lowellites who died in the Great War." Anna was maid at the Farnlacher familie in Munchen, Ledererstrasse 20. After the wedding, her mother-in-law opened a branch of her dairy store for her in Ickstattstrasse. Anna ran this store until government regulations forced her to give it up because she had more than the maximum of two children. This was a municipal government ordinance, that a dairy store operator could only have two children. Brother Theodor Held was godfather to Richard Theodor Farnlacher, son of Nikolaus Farnlacher. Try to make sense out of information from Grace Naomy Schott (at 85th birthday party for Lewis Stanley Farnlacher, Blendon Woods park, July 5, 1998)... Is "Catherine Schmidt from Columbus", Grace's grandmother, the same person as "Kate Schmidt, daughter of Andreas Schmidt and Agatha Farnlacher"?
Aziel Schott Shockley said that she and Grace were first cousins. If true, this means that one of Aziel's parents was a brother or sister to one of Grace's parents. The information collected from Grace and Aziel doesn't show this: their four parents all have different parents (there should be one commonality somewhere!). However, Bernadine Schott Daily (Farnlacher reunion, 8-23-98) said that Charles Schott (Aziel's grandfather) and Adam Schott (Grace's grandfather) were brothers. This would make Grace and Aziel second cousins, right?

Margarete's death Oct 16 or 17?
Elsabeth Fridley said that Agatha Farnlacher married Andrew Schmidt and had a daughter Margaret Schmidt who married Edward Luft, who along with her siblings were raised by Rev. Pfleuger.
From a Family Group Work Sheet by an unknown author... "(the burial plot for Andrew Schmidt was) paid for by Ed and Maggie Luft". Is this Maggie's father or brother? Also from this worksheet... "My Grandmother Maggie Luft before she was married was a housekeeper for the Peter Schille Family in their home on Bryden Road, Columbus (Ohio). Peter Schille owned Schille Soft Drinks Co. Their daughter Alice was a most famous water color artist in Columbus whose work is still on display. My Grandmother Maggie Luft never talked about her parents very much. I know her father rather fell apart after her mother died and drank a lot. Someone said maybe he was killed in a bar, but the record says heart attack. I'm sure if he'd been killed it would have been stated on the record. Mrs. Emma Pfleuger, wife of Pastor Pfleuger, helped raise the children. I gather that they were shipped around a lot. I know they were very poor. It seems as though they spent time in the Westerville area as I have my Grandmother's Confirmation Certificate from St. Paul's Lutheran Church (country church). I also have a copy of Michael Schmidt's naturalization papers. It is very dark & I'm not sure if it would copy."
